As an engineering fitter you’ll produce complex high value, low volume components or assemblies in full or part, using machines, equipment or systems, to the required specification.

Working as part of a team of fitters or independently you’ll show a commitment to completing work to a high standard, in line with quality, health and safety and environmental regulations and requirements.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Knowledge of materials used in components/assemblies
  • Understanding of the principles of design and operation
  • Interpreting and understanding the component/assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions
  • Planning component/assembly tasks and preparing area
  • Safe use of tools and equipment
  • Techniques for measuring, marking, cutting and drilling materials
  • Quality checks and problem solving; ability to analyse and fix issues
  • Applying improvement techniques
  • Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures
  • Effective communication and teamwork

Qualifications and certification:

Mandatory qualifications for this programme are:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering – technical and development
  • Level 2 Functional Skills: Maths and English (if not already held)

On completion you will be eligible to apply for professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), e.g. with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which will support your career development.
